RIP Floppy Beach Hats

*Disclaimer: We hardly had Internet during our trip, so my future posts will be a little dated. I'll get everything up here soon enough!*

I’ll try to keep this post short. Partly because I’m a little tired, but mostly because our day Saturday ended at approximately 5pm. I’ll go into more details later.

My not-so-healthy breakfast

We woke up early, well rested and ready for breakfast. I could talk about the breakfast options all day. Hot glazed chocolate donuts, delicious scrambled eggs, crunchy hash browns. Not to mention the impeccable service. It seemed like the resort staff members could literally sense my thoughts. They catered to our every whim and continually called us “princess” and “senorita.” Men from home, take notes!

Quick shot of the Coati

After breakfast we took a few pictures of the wildlife around the hotel. All of the eating areas are outside, surrounded by pools of swans and flamingos. On the outskirts of the pools, peacocks and other exotic birds grazed the grounds. There was one annoyance—the Coati. This little raccoon-like animals seemed cute at first, but they got a little too close around the food areas (mostly due to parents letting their kids feed them…). I’m pretty sure this was the same animal one of my mom’s friends mistakenly got bit by during her trip to Mexico, so we made it a point to steer clear of them.

Then we wandered around the pool areas a little bit. We stumbled upon a massive never-ending pool, almost like a lazy river, with bridges, small Jacuzzi-like areas, and more swim-up bars. We found a nice, quiet area to lie down and tan.

This quiet was soon interrupted by two men walking around with a Toucan, looking for people to take pictures with the bird. “Why not?” we thought. I was first to take pictures with the bird. It tried to fly away as one man brought it close to my arm. It then started gnawing my sunglasses as it sat on my shoulder. I was relieved once the pictures were done. Sydne was up next. The bird again wasn’t happy and expressed this by relieving himself on her back. Too funny. I wish we had visual evidence, but we decided to not purchase the pictures.

Back to tanning. We laid peacefully for an hour or so, and then Sydne suggested we go back to the pool bar from yesterday and make friends. “Just five more minutes,” I replied. We then started talking about how life just couldn’t get any better. Well believe me when I say it did. A man carrying lotions and oils wondered up to us and asked if we had gotten our free trial massages yet. Ahhhh…now this is paradise.

Now physically relaxed, it was time to get mentally relaxed. We hit the pool bar, ordered Bahama Mamas, and made friends with a crazy wedding party. A couple “Dirty Frog” shots later (at 10am mind you), the hotel’s ‘Star Friends’ staff members (who now knew us by name) convinced us to bachata with them. Bachata is a Caribbean style dance where you move in a square. Thankfully my dance partner was a Star Friend from Mexico who knew how to dance, so it was easy to follow his lead.

Post-bachata, we enjoyed one too many tequila shots with yet another wedding party (these ones were Canadian). Before we knew it, we were playing football in the pool and ending every sentence in “Eh!”

Shortly afterwards, say sometime around 5pm, we found our way back to the room where our night ended. We did wake up some time later to order room service, since we hadn’t eaten since breakfast (whoops!). And that’s when we realized that somehow we managed to lose the cute, monogrammed floppy beach hats featured in my last post. At least it was the hats and not our dignity, I think.

I promise we are being good!
