Initial Cultural Observations

Quick post about some of my initial observations in Taipei.

-People wear masks here when they are sick. Like the kind your dentist wears. They do it as a common courtesy, but it's kind of scary.

-If a local doesn't know English, there is no hope of verbal communication. It's not like in Mexico where you can make due. Fortunately all public transportation signs are also written in English (props to anyone who can understand Chinese characters). I'll be communicating via nodding and pointing this week.

-There is a street food called 'stinky tofu' that smells like someone threw up in a cup. I've heard it tastes that way too. Will not be sampling.

-TMI, but I basically had to pee in a hole at the airport. Looks like I'll be getting a good leg workout while I'm here.

-Also TMI, but you don't flush toilet paper here. It goes in the trashcan.

-A lot of people don't brush their teeth.

-Jet lag sucks.

Here's to my first day exploring!
