Trading Turkey for Tequila

Tomorrow morning marks the beginning of my week long journey to Mexico.

Sydne and I have been counting down the days since we booked this trip a few months back. And I mean literally counting down...I think the first text I got from her was "97 days 'til Mexico!"..and I've been getting biweekly updates ever since.

Sydne is a fellow Tri Delta and Chemical Engineer. As engineers, we are both extremely organized, prompt, and type-A. I don’t think we could plan this trip in any more detail if we tried. For example: How do normal people pack for vacations? By taking an hour or so to pack clothes, toiletries, and the usual necessities. How do two female engineers pack for vacations? Extensive Internet research and packing lists in the form of Excel spreadsheets. We even pre-booked our dinner reservations at the resort’s specialty restaurants.

We’ve been talking about taking another vacation ever since we got back from an amazing Spring Break trip to Key West in 2011.

Unfortunately, school, work, and life got in the way. A night of procrastinating grad school work this summer led me to Googling trips to the Riviera Maya region of Mexico. Having been twice as a child with family (and absolutely loving it!), I knew it was time to go back and experience the area as a young adult. And who better to bring along than one of my best friends? I immediately called Sydne and proposed the idea, knowing her passion for traveling and that of course she would be on board. A few weeks later, we nailed down the week of Thanksgiving as the perfect time to go (sorry Mom and Dad!), and before you know it, we were ready to trade turkey for tequila (sorry again Mom and Dad..).

Follow along (and follow Sydne, too) as we sunbathe at the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar resort in Playa Del Carmen, get our grub on at the Taste of Playa food festival, and even travel to one of the Modern Seven Wonders of the World

…that is if we make it through airport security!
Girls just wanna have fun RUM!
Hasta luego,
